Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with veterinarians to make triage assessments, devise initial diagnostic recommendations, and create medical plans for dogs and cats in an emergency setting.

• Perform and assist with clinical procedures, including (but not limited to), placing intravenous sampling lines, collecting and processing diagnostic samples, administering medications, and monitoring anesthesia.

• Obtain complete medical histories while maintaining thorough and accurate medical records.

• Educate pet owners about clinic protocols, treatment options, and post-care instructions to empower informed decision-making.

• Manage inventory and maintain a well-organized clinic environment, ensuring necessary supplies are readily available.

• Elevate the patient experience by providing compassionate care and support to both animals and their owners during stressful situations.

• Participate in ongoing training and professional development, growing skills and knowledge while actively fostering the growth of others.

Qualifications:

• Valid Colorado Veterinary Technician license (or eligibility to obtain).

• Experience in emergency or urgent care settings preferred, but a strong desire to learn is valued.

As a Client Support Specialist at Inkwell, you will serve as the first point of contact for pet parents, providing excellent customer service and support during these stressful times. Your role will be essential in creating a welcoming environment, maintaining a streamlined process for incoming patients, and facilitating effective communication between pet parents and our veterinary team.

• Greet clients and their pets warmly, ensuring a positive and professional first impression.

• Maintain accurate client and pet records, ensuring all information is up-to-date and organized.

Attending, full- or part-time

At inkwell, our philosophy is simple: medicine is at its best when it comes from a team that feels supported and empowered. When we give the people who practice the medicine the resources and the room to do it well, good care follows. You would be the doctor on the floor of an emergency clinic where our people are the priority. You would work closely with a strong team to triage, work up cases, stabilize, and treat dogs and cats in a transparent, welcoming space. This is emergency medicine; it just doesn't feel like it does elsewhere.

The medicine is real ER. You will perform minor sedated or anesthetized procedures, such as wound repairs, unblocking, and enucleations, and stabilize and transfer anything that belongs in an operating room. You will manage hospitalized patients alongside a healthy outpatient caseload. And you will aim for high-level, gold-standard medicine while staying flexible about what "gold standard" means for the patient and family in front of you.

The way we strive to practice is genuinely team-based. You will guide the care while the technicians and assistants around you work at the top of their license. The better the team runs, the more room you have to guide cases and teach.

The experience this seat needs

All of our veterinarians came up as emergency doctors inside specialty and referral centers. All ER doctors at inkwell need a real feel for the capabilities and limitations of practicing high-level emergency care in a mostly outpatient clinic.

Working in a small and privately owned clinic brings real autonomy and a genuine hand in building something; but it also brings variability and a number of frustrations. As we grow, we are looking for people who aren’t intimidated by those challenges.

The shape of the work

Full-time is 12 shifts in a four-week block (about 13 a month), in a mix of 10- and 12-hour days. We're closed Tuesdays, weekends are part of the rotation, and no overnight shifts are expected in this role. If part-time fits your life better, tell us the shift count you want and we'll build around it.

Pay

$135,000 to $150,000 a year at a full-time load. Part-time is prorated by shift.

At inkwell, our philosophy is simple: medicine is at its best when it comes from a team that feels supported and empowered, and growing a new emergency doctor is part of that. You would learn to be the doctor on the floor of an emergency clinic where our people are the priority, on real cases, taught by veterinarians who have done this for years and want you to excel at at it.

We created this position for two kinds of people: new and recent graduates drawn to the ER, and general-practice or urgent-care veterinarians interested in committing to real emergency work. What they share is a wish to plant roots in emergency medicine, the aptitude to grow quickly, and the honesty to name what they don't know yet.

How the mentorship works

At the beginning, your shifts are built to overlap an experienced ER mentor as you grow. Over time you will transition to independent case management and solo management on the floor. As you show you're ready, your responsibility grows and your pay steps up with it, reviewed each quarter, leading into the attending role and its pay band.

Pay

$100,000 to $115,000 a year at a full-time load during the mentored ramp, stepping up toward the attending band of $135,000 to $150,000 as you progress. Part-time is prorated by shift.
